St. Dominic High School seeks a principal to begin in the 2019-20 school year. The principal serves as the chief academic officer of the school. St. Dominic High School is a Catholic, co-educational, college preparatory high school located in the thriving community of O’Fallon, Missouri.

St. Dominic is the largest Catholic co-educational school in the St. Louis metropolitan area, serving 720 students in grades 9-12 as a part of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. The school boasts a rich tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, and fine arts.  With faith and service at the core of its existence, St. Dominic is considered a strong leader in Catholic secondary education. The principal will serve as member of the administrative team with a chief emphasis in leading the academic program of the school.

Job Description

General Statement of Position

The principal is the chief academic officer of the school and is a member of the administrative team. The principal’s various leadership responsibilities are essential to the successful leadership of the school. The principal has particular emphasis in current educational practices and instructional methods. 

General Position Description
  • Advances the St. Dominic Mission and Vision within the entire educational community
  • Leads in the development and implementation of an overall learning environment that promotes faith formation, ethical decision making, social justice and Catholic values
  • Collaborates with the president in the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s strategic plan
  • Actively participates in the academic, social and spiritual development of students  
  • Leads the school accreditation process
  • Commands an expectation of excellence and collaboration by faculty member
  • Drives the academic vision of the school through curriculum development 
  • Implements a data-driven curriculum to best meet the needs of individualized learning
  • Facilitates the process of ensuring curriculum standards are met and assessed 
  • Formally and informally evaluates teachers in collaboration with the assistant principal
  • Leads academic events and programs that promote students and their achievements
  • Supports the dean of students in school discipline
  • Attends all St. Dominic Advisory Board meetings, sends an academic report in advance, and collaborates with the board’s education committee
  • Demonstrates commitment to lifelong learning by pursuing continuing education opportunities that support personal growth and contribute to St. Dominic High School
Specific Responsibilities: Catholic Identity and Mission
  • Models Catholic faith and values to faculty, staff and students
  • Regularly attends and leads morning prayer for faculty 
  • Ensures all classes, meetings and activities begin with prayer
Specific Responsibilities: Academic
  • Serves as the chief academic officer of the school
  • Implements and evaluates a data-driven curriculum that best meets individualized learning needs
  • Leads the school’s accreditation process
  • Leads and participates in professional development that aligns with current instructional and technological best practices
  • Selects, orders and distributes textbooks, apps and other instructional materials
  • Coordinates the implementation of ACT preparation within each discipline and reviews reports to assist with the alignment of curriculum
  • Oversees the Multi-Tier System of Support, including teacher development in differentiation and meeting the needs of students of varying levels of abilities 
  • Is present regularly in classrooms, ensuring teacher performance in daily instruction, lesson planning, instruction, technology integration, assessment and classroom management
  • Approves course syllabi, study guides and final exams
  • Assists teachers in goal-setting and summative process in evaluation cycle
  • Prepares and presents teacher summative reports
  • Oversees and approves all government funding programs
  • Leads the teacher mentor program with the assistant principal
Specific Responsibilities: Administration
  • Oversees the assistant principal’s performance
  • Formally evaluates teachers, college guidance coordinators, registrar, special needs services and the assistant principal
  • Manages the instructional budget
  • Supports the president in instructional aspects of the budget-building process
  • Leads the creation of the school calendar and schedule
  • Maintains all teacher and student records
  • Collaborates with the president and assistant principal in the hiring of teachers
  • Revises faculty handbook in cooperation with the president and the student handbook in cooperation with the dean of students
Specific Responsibilities: Supervision
  • Collaborates with teachers on classroom management issues and attends individual conferences as necessary
  • Supervises hallways during student transition periods 
  • Supervises students during school day activities
  • Assists in providing supervision for selected events on behalf of St. Dominic High School, including assigned athletic events, fine arts events, student retreats, field trips  and other on- and off-campus events

Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with church practices and doctrine
  • Minimum seven years experience in high school instruction, with at least three years in Administration
  • Master’s or specialist degree in education, instruction, curriculum, administration or principal certification
  • Understanding of the president/principal administrative model
  • Preferred experience in technology based learning, particularly in a 1:1 structure
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of educational law
