Building Trades Program

The Construction Innovations year of studies encompasses the knowledge, skills, and abilities that students who are interested in working in the trades need to master, regardless of their trade-specific choice. These studies incorporate various construction-related topics for a student's first year. Students will participate in quarter-long courses in H.V.A.C., Carpentry, General Construction, and Electrical Trades. The program competencies are a guide to basic construction skills training. The program covers safety issues, tool identification/usage, trade-specific vocabulary, and construction math.  Students are exposed to classroom academics, hands-on competencies in the building trades, and life skills.  Students will complete safety training and hands-on projects that will facilitate an understanding of preparations, layouts, and installations in construction trades and building techniques.

The Carpentry curriculum is a thorough guide to basic skills training. Each unit is divided into sections covering vocabulary, additional resources, as well as suggested learning and assessment activities. Students will gain knowledge, skills, and abilities that are required to become successful in the next level of the carpentry trade.

The Electrical Trades curriculum allows students the opportunity to learn how to design, stage, and install commercial and residential electrical wiring for power and telecommunications systems. The skills taught may include blueprint interpretation, layout, design, and programming equipment. In addition, an emphasis will be placed on logical thinking.  Throughout the course, students will learn basic guidelines for electrical safety installations and electrical safety in the workplace.

This program follows HVAC industry standards. Students will learn general shop safety, electrical high and low voltage, sheet metal fabrication, tubing and piping techniques, gas and electric heating systems, basic air conditioning and refrigeration cycle, service and installation practices, indoor air quality, and employability skills. This course will be available for the 2026-27 school year.

Learn the fundamentals of this essential industry, from residential plumbing/pipe installation and repairs to water treatment systems.  You will learn the skills needed to help maintain critical infrastructure in homes and in the community.  This course will be available for the 2026-27 school year.

The Trades Center houses two traditional-style classrooms and four laboratory workshops, each outfitted to support one of the core trades: carpentry, electrical, HVAC and pipefitting. It also holds space for separate boys' and girls' locker rooms, restrooms, and a dedicated front office and break room for teachers.

Our new Fitness Center nearly tripled the capacity of the previous weights and strengths training room, with space to increase the number of power racks and cardio equipment, while adding olympic lift stations and a glute-ham development station for athletic performance. Additional areas include a plyometric space and turf for speed and power development. 

The new auxillary gym features traditional indoor court markings, along with a lined wall of mirrors to be used for our Cheer and Dance Team practices.
