St. Dominic High School senior David Daum is a semifinalist in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of US high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

More than 1.5 million members of the Class of 2021 took part in last year's PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screening of program entrants. Approximately 16,000 students advanced to the semifinalist level.

To become a finalist, the semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, and write an essay. Approximately 15,000 finalists will be named in February, and all National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from this group.

David is a graduate and parishioner of Sts. Joachim and Ann in St. Peters. He is a member of Math Club, Culture Club and Bowling Club at St. Dominic. After graduation, he hopes to attend Yale University or Stanford University to major in linguistics or East Asian languages.
