St. Dominic High School is pleased to introduce Mrs. Stacy Stewart as its next principal, effective July 1, 2019. Stewart has 23 years of experience in secondary education, including 16 years as an administrator, in the Fort Zumwalt School District.

“Stacy is the perfect fit for St. Dominic High School,” said St. Dominic President Mr. Jim Welby. “Her career background and personality align so well with our Dominican charism of prayer, study, community and service. We are excited about her energy and love for curriculum here at St. Dominic.”

Stewart was a high school biology teacher and department chair in the Fort Zumwalt School District for seven years before becoming assistant principal at Fort Zumwalt West High School in 2002. She holds master’s and specialist degrees in educational administration from Lindenwood University and looks forward to applying her STEM background to St. Dominic’s curriculum.

“Watching students become self-directed learners gives me life,” Stewart said. “I’m excited to give our faculty tools to honor their strengths and talents, which will advance our students further in their goals.”

A 1989 graduate of St. Dominic High School, Stewart will be St. Dominic’s first alumni principal. Her St. Dominic legacy extends across generations, including her parents (both 1961 graduates of St. Dominic’s predecessor, Assumption High School), siblings (including five St. Dominic graduates from 1985 to 1996) and children (one current and one future St. Dominic student).

“My role is to serve others, and what better way to do that than to come back to my roots and return the favor that made me who I am?” Stewart said of returning to her alma mater. “To serve the students and community here is really exciting.”

Stewart credits witnessing her daughter’s faith journey at St. Dominic as a force that drew her to pursue Catholic education.

“To watch students develop their faith at such a young age puts me in awe,” she said. “Being a part of that and serving in that manner is really important to me.”

Stewart will succeed longtime St. Dominic administrator Ms. Cathy Fetter, who is serving as interim principal for the 2018-19 school year.

Stewart and her husband, Tim, are the parents of two children: Madeline, a senior at St. Dominic, and Gavin, an eighth grader at Assumption. The family now lives in O’Fallon and belongs to Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish. They previously lived in Troy, where they were longtime members of Sacred Heart Parish.
