Standardized Test Accommodations

In order for a student to be eligible to receive accommodations on standardized tests, written documentation* must include the following conditions:
  • The examiner’s professional credentials are clearly stated and appropriate for the disability being diagnosed.
  • The evaluations should be current, no more than three years old.
  • There should be a specific diagnosis of a special need that impacts a student’s ability to perform in the school setting (a physical or neurological disability, learning disability, visual or auditory deficit, or behavioral or attention disorder) and evidence that alternate explanations were ruled out.
  • Recommendations for accommodations within the school setting must be stated in the evaluation report of the professional who made the diagnosis.
  • Parents must provide written consent for a student to receive accommodations.
*For students with a learning disability or language impairment, documentation is the diagnostic evaluation provided by the public school district. Students diagnosed with AD/HD may use the “Disability Verification Form for Students with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders” for documentation or a written evaluation report from the diagnosing professional. ACT and most post-secondary institutions require a written evaluation report.
