RELIGION COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

015 The Revelation of Jesus Christ in Scripture – Grade 9 (1.0 credit)  
This course will offer students a general knowledge and appreciation of the Sacred Scriptures.  Through study of the Bible, students will encounter the living Word of God, Jesus Christ.  Students will learn how to read the Bible and become familiar with the major sections, books and people in Scripture.  Emphasis will be placed on the Gospels.  Students will be introduced to the Mystery of Jesus Christ, the Living Word of God.  Emphasis will be placed on Jesus Christ as the ultimate revelation from God.  In learning about who Jesus Christ is, the students will learn who He calls them to be.

021 Church History - Grade 10 (0.5 credit) 
This survey course traces the historical reality of the Church focusing on the people and events that helped shape today’s church.

022 Sacraments - Grade 10 (0.5 credit)
This course develops the concepts of Jesus (as the Sacrament of God), the Church (as the Sacrament of Christ), and the seven ritual sacraments.  All of the seven sacraments are explained from their historical and theological perspectives.  This course also aids the student to see the relevance of the sacraments in the living of a Christian life.

030 World Religions – Grade 11 (0.5 credit)
The purpose of this course is to foster respect for, and an understanding of, the faith and religions of the diverse peoples of the world.  By comparing themselves with others in a positive, respectful manner, students will come to affirm and appreciate their own identity and uniqueness as Catholics.

031 Morality - Grade 11 (0.5 credit)
This course presents to students the principles of Catholic morality and the applications of these principles in their lives.  The study of morality begins with the Sacred Scriptures and the moral teachings of Jesus Christ.

041 Lifestyles - Grade 12 (0.5 credit)  
This course focuses on life themes that are common to all lifestyle paths as well as the specific lifestyles of single life, religious life, priesthood, and marriage.

042 Social Issues - Grade 12 (0.5 credit)
This course explores the student’s relationship with the global community. It informs and challenges the Christian to continue the work of justice and peace through belief and service.  Christian morality is presented as the Christian’s personal response to societal values that may be contrary to Gospel values. 

THE FOLLOWING COURSE IS AN ELECTIVE AND CAN BE TAKEN IN ADDITION TO THE REQUIRED COURSES.

049 Christian Prayer -
Grade 11 & 12 (0.5 credit)
This semester course focuses on the Catholic tradition of prayer.  Students will be exposed to and experience various forms of prayer, as well as, creating their own prayers and developing a deeper prayer life.  Students in this course will help to prepare school liturgical services, including Masses, seasonal prayer services, Stations of the Cross, etc. Student work may be published for the St. Dominic community.
