HONOR ROLLS
First Honors: G.P.A. of 3.75 or higher. No grade lower than a C
Second Honors: G.P.A. no lower than 3.15. No grade lower than a C
ACADEMIC AWARDS
Academic certificates are awarded in May to all students who earn 3.50 on their cumulative grade point average. Scholastic letters are awarded to sophomores, juniors, and seniors who earn a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.60. In successive years, letter recipients earn pins. Medals are awarded to the top student in each department as selected by the faculty.
VALEDICTORIAN
The valedictorian of the senior class is the senior with the highest grade point average after eight semesters. In case of a tie, the senior with the greater amount of accumulated grade points is the valedictorian. If still tied, those seniors share the honor. The salutatorian is the senior second in the class, using the grade point average or grade points accumulated as previously explained.
NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY
The NAHS is a local chapter of a national organization that recognizes students who excel in art and have personal qualities of good citizenship, leadership, service, and character. Minimum eligibility requirements are: student must be in grade 10-12, currently enrolled in an art class or have successfully completed at least one year of art at SDHS. Transfer students must have a letter from their art teacher and must fulfill requirements of this chapter. Eligible students are asked to complete an application form. Enrollment is limited.
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
The purpose of the National Honor Society is to give recognition to outstanding students. Membership in the NHS is recognized nationally as one of the highest honors that a high school student receives. Membership is an honor bestowed upon a student based upon a combination of scholarship, good citizenship and personal qualities of leadership, service, and character.
