ST. LOUIS – Eastern Illinois men’s soccer’s Brad Peters has been named to the preseason Watch List for the most prestigious award in collegiate soccer, the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy.

The initial list is comprised of 48 NCAA Division I players, including the 2007 recipient O’Brian White of the University of Connecticut.

The Hermann Trophy winner is selected by DI head coaches that are members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The list is reduced to 15 semifinalists by a coaches committee in November, from which the three finalists are later chosen. The Missouri Athletic Club will announce the winner Jan. 9 in St. Louis.

Peters was one of three Missouri Valley Conference players selected to the preseason Watch List, joining Creighton’s Byron Dacy and Andrei Gotsmanov. Loyola forward Michael Ferguson was the only player chosen from an Illinois-based program.

Peters enters his senior season as the MVC’s active career leader with 23 goals. He has led the league with 11 scores each of the last two years, earning First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-Region honors at the end of both seasons.

In 2007, the St. Peters, Mo. native became the first player in EIU’s Valley era (1996-present) to record consecutive double-figure goal seasons. Concurrently, he has provided the scoring punch that has lifted the Panthers to their first set of back-to-back 10-plus victory seasons since 1988-89.

Eastern has posted a 15-2-1 record when he has scored a goal during his career.

Peters was named the MVP of the UMKC Invitational last year after scoring the lone goal in a pair of 1-0 wins, including an overtime goal against Oral Roberts. He finished the year with six game-winners, another individual program record in the MVC years.

Peters and the Panthers kickoff their new season Friday, Aug. 29 at Valparaiso.

Tim Ream is playing soccer for the St. Louis Billikens.

“Ream emerged as one of the top left backs in the country this season.  He was the lone member of the Billikens’ staunch back line who started every game.  In addition to contributing the league’s top-rated defense, Ream consistently served crisp passes out of the left flank that led to scoring chances on the offensive end. He earned four assists on the year, including a career-high two in an important 3-1 victory at George Washington.”

Brad Peters is playing soccer for Eastern Illinois University.

“Peters led the league with 11 goals for the second year in a row, becoming the first player in the program’s valley era (1996-present) to post back-to-back seasons with 10-plus scores.  Six of his 11 goals this year proved to be game-winners, as the junior established another MVC era record.  Early in the season he scored the game-winning goal in three straight contests and took home MVP honors at the UMKC Invitational.  Peters – who was also an iron man forward, ranking second on the team in minutes played (1,888) – will enter his senior season as the conference’s active leader in goals and points.”
