Dear Student, Parent, Teacher, Principal, Pastor:
The St. Dominic High School Academic Scholarship Program will be awarding 8- $500 scholarships to incoming freshmen to be used for the 2008-2009 school year.
The academic achievements of the scholarship recipients will be reviewed at the end of their freshmen year and two scholarships will be renewed for the following three years based on maintained performance, course selections and GPA. In the case of a tie, the money will be divided.
Applicants to the Assumption-St. Dominic Alumni Scholarship may also apply for the Academic Scholarship. However, a student may be the recipient of only one scholarship.
The scholarships awarded will be based on the following criteria:
1) Applicant's family must be registered in one of the fourteen parishes in the St. Dominic High School region 2) An “A" average for the 7th grade and first semester of the 8th grade. 3) ITBS (or other comparable standardized test) scores in the 95% or above 4) 2 recommendations (required forms attached) 5) Essay
The accompanying application and recommendation forms must be completed and returned with postmark no later than midnight Tuesday, March 25, 2008.
The scholarship winners will be announced by May 5, 2008.

Be sure the persons who send recommendations are aware of the mailing deadline of 3/25/08. Late recommendations will disqualify your application.

All applicants must write an essay on the topic below. The essay will be judged on the overall impression created by the use of correct grammar, creativity, originality, logical development of ideas, and application of Catholic values.

One of the first goals of our patron, St. Dominic, as he began the Dominican Order was to preach the TRUTH. Write an essay of 200-250 words discussing how TRUTH is seen in today’s world and how you can make TRUTH a part of your everyday life.
