St. Dominic High School Announces New President

We are pleased to introduce Mr. Jim Welby as the new president of St. Dominic High School, effective July 1. Welby has served the St. Dominic community as athletic director since 2012 and has 17 years of experience in Catholic education.

"I am humbled to be able to continue to serve the St. Dominic community in this new position," Welby said. "My family and I are deeply rooted at St. Dominic, and I look forward to being able to continue the school's rich heritage of prayer, study, community and service for many years."

Welby will be the eighth leader of St. Dominic High School since its founding in 1962. He is the school's second lay president, following Ms. Cathy Fetter, who will retire June 30 as president emeritus.

"Jim has been an asset to St. Dominic in his time as athletic director," said St. Dominic Principal Mrs. Janet Eaton. "He is dedicated to our school's mission and will continue to be an outstanding leader for the St. Dominic community."

Prior to coming to St. Dominic, Welby served as a teacher and administrator at his alma mater, Bishop DuBourg High School. He brings 13 years of administrative experience, including serving as athletic director and advancement director at Bishop DuBourg.

"We are both grateful and excited Mr. Welby has agreed to assume this role of leadership," said Dr. Kurt Nelson, Superintendent of Catholic Education for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. "We have every confidence in his capacity to guide the school."

Catholic education is a tradition for Welby's entire family. His wife, Jamie, has served as a Catholic educator for 19 years and will begin teaching at Assumption School this fall. Their daughter, Caitlin, will be a sophomore at St. Dominic and their son, Kelly James, will enter seventh grade at Assumption. Their oldest daughter, Maggie, passed away at age 7 in 2005. The family lives in Dardenne Prairie.
