An Important Message for Our School Community

The following letters were shared with our school community the morning of Wednesday, April 25:

Dear Parents,

It is with a grateful but heavy heart that I am addressing this letter to you. St. Dominic High School has been a wonderful home for me for the past seven years and Immaculate Conception Dardenne for twelve years prior to that. Beginning with the 2018-2019 school year, I have accepted the position of Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Wichita, Kansas.

As you are receiving this email, I will be addressing the students. I dearly love your teens. They are incredible young people! Their faith, commitment to learning, and love of life inspire me each day. My admiration for them made the decision to leave very, very difficult.

It has truly been my honor to serve your family, our dedicated teachers and staff, and our community. I am so grateful to God for the opportunity to have worked here. The past seven years have taught me so much. I consider myself truly blessed.

The Wichita Diocese is my home diocese – the place where I began as a teacher and administrator. It is a diocese of four high schools and thirty-four parish elementary schools. It is also a place where our families reside. Our move to Wichita will not happen until the middle of summer. I very much look forward to finishing this school year with your teens, our faculty and staff. I promise you my commitment to serve this community until that time.

Please join me in praying for the process that will now begin as St. Dominic High School, with the support of the Archdiocese, moves forward in finding a new principal. I assure you that I will be praying for this process.

On behalf of my husband, Kevin, and our children, thank you from the bottom of our hearts! I truly believe in the saying, “Once a Crusader, always a Crusader.”

With immense gratitude,
Janet Eaton

Dear Parents,

A few minutes ago, you should have received a correspondence from Mrs. Janet Eaton, our principal, announcing that she has accepted the position of Superintendent of the Diocese of Wichita beginning in the 2018-19 school year. On behalf of our administration, faculty and staff, I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Mrs. Eaton and wish her well. She has served our St. Dominic community for the past seven years with tremendous faith, diligence and care. Mrs. Eaton has worked very hard in her professional career to earn this opportunity. We are grateful for her time as an administrator and parent, both at St. Dominic and Immaculate Conception of Dardenne. We wish her well as she transitions home to Wichita this summer.

I ask for your prayers for our school community as we begin the transition in academic leadership at St. Dominic High School. We have been working with the Catholic Education Office of the Archdiocese of St. Louis to begin the next steps in identifying our next principal. We have an initial direction that we believe will best serve our students and faculty, but will finalize our strategy in the coming weeks. As always, we will communicate with you throughout this process. In the meantime, please continue to keep Mrs. Eaton, her family and our school community in your prayers.

Thank you for the opportunity to work with your children at St. Dominic High School. We are truly blessed to have your family in our community.

Educating with a higher purpose,
Jim Welby
